Casino donates $500,000 for MRI scanner
Date:
December 9, 1997
On its first anniversary today, Casino Niagara has given its own
gift to the residents of Niagara.
Through a cooperative effort between the hospitals in the region,
Casino Niagara has pledged $500,000 towards the purchase of a
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner.
This regional donation was announced during a press/VIP reception
this morning for the casino's first anniversary acknowledgment.
"The unit will benefit all people across the Niagara region
who presently have to travel a s far away as Toronto or the United
States for an MRI scan," said casino President and COO Dean
Macomber.
The MRI scanner will be located at the St. Catharines General
Hospital, which has been selected by the Ministry of Health as
the MRI site for the Niagara region. Accepting the donation today
were members of the Breakthrough Healthcare campaign and representatives
from hospitals in the region.
Casino Niagara's donation is based on a dollar for dollar match
of new contributions to the campaign. The casino's matching donation
is expected to raise $1 million, which will help complete the
targeted fundraising goal. This capital contribution will extend
over two fiscal years.
"Since it is our intention that our charitable contributions
have a regional impact, a capital project such as the MRI fits
the regional need," added Macomber.
