November
29, 1995
The Ontario Government announces a casino would open in
Niagara Falls, Ontario.
April
15,1996
The former Maple Leaf Village retail
complex, located at 5705 Falls Ave., is identified as the site
of the interim Casino Niagara. Construction starts a month later.
May
22,1996
Deadline for expressions of interest
for temporary operators of the interim Casino Niagara. Twenty-three
companies and consortiums from across North America respond.
June
20, 1996
The Ontario Casino Corporation invites
eight companies and consortiums to submit bids to operate the
interim Casino Niagara, until a permanent operator is chosen.
July
25, 1996
The Navegante Group is chosen as
the private sector operator for the interim casino. Navegante
will act as an agent for the Ontario Casino Corporation, which
owns and manages all provincial casinos.
November
13, 1996
The Ontario Casino Corporation announces
that Casino Niagara will open to the public on December 9, 1996.
December
7,1996
Casino Niagara hosts a gala preview
evening with 5,000 - 6,000 invited guests.
