Assigning is selling the rights to use your idea, trademark, or copyright. If you decide to use an Assignment Document, you sell the rights to your idea, trademark, or copyright.

Licensing Agreements will provide you with royalties based upon fixed or variable rates. As the owner of the patent, trademark, or copyright, you will have the power to terminate the Licensing Agreement. Assignments usually call for one lump sum of money to be paid, and all rights to the patent, trademark, or copyright are sold. Thus, with an Assignment, you give up your rights to your patent, trademark, or copyright.
